Direct Energy Centre
16 March 2011

The move last year to the Direct Energy Centre in the Exhibition grounds
offers six acres of colourful, glorious gardens and
100,000 square feet of Marketplace, ALL on one level.

Once again this year,
the Georgian Bay Garden Club
conducted a bus tour for Canada Blooms.

We left Owen Sound in a light drizzle
but encountered some wet snow flurries
on the way to Toronto.

History of the Garden Hall
The Garden Club of Toronto held its first flower show in 1949,and over the years has held shows in the Automotive Building, Sony Centre for the Performing Arts (formerly the O’Keefe Centre), Casa Loma, Royal Winter Fair and the Civic Garden Centre. In 1997, marking the Garden Club of Toronto’s 50th anniversary and Landscape Ontario’s 25th anniversary, the two organizations decided to celebrate with the founding of Canada Blooms, where club members produced a very successful flower show. Over the following years the Garden Hall evolved into an integral part of Canada Blooms. Horticulture classes are open to anyone who wishes to enter. Floral Design classes are open to those who qualify. International participants are by invitation only. All entrants in the Garden Hall are amateur designers and horticulturists.

The Main Entrance corridor had this giant magnolia blooms mural on the wall,
leading to The Green for Life Garden. Created by more than 40 Landscape Ontario members,
this spectacular 9,000-square-foot entrance garden will be one of the largest
created in the history of Canada Blooms.

There was considerable confusion at
Canada Blooms looking for Oscar Peterson’s
flower covered piano, as pictured on the front
of Toronto Star’s Section F, March 12, 2011.
That piano was at a previous
Canada Blooms, not this year.

some miscellaneous images

THE STOREY:
The daughter took a picture of mother by the Amaryllis.
I asked if they would like a picture together
(the mother had her eyes closed in the first shot)
and here is the picture.

A couple of orchids at one
of the stalls in the Marketplace.

A 10 year old Amaryllis
at another Marketplace stall.
The flowers adorning the entrance to the Niagara Wine Garden – a Canada Blooms tradition,
where you can meet with friends and enjoy a glass of award winning Ontario wine
and taste fine cheese presented by the Dairy Farmers of Canada.

Canada Blooms for five hours is our stop at the

Can you identify these hungry people?

Just to prove I was there,
Hank took my picture.

Some of the ice still remaining in
the fountain in front of
The Mandarin.

A few remaining Christmas lights
being taken down. The staff put
up approximately 700,000.

These fountains operate
throught the winter with the
water spouting from rocks.

All aboard! Next stop Markdale,
Chatsworth and Owen Sound.

NOTE: The vehicle is NOT in motion!

Of all the pictures I took on the buses, these are the only two that turned out. Sorry.
